Lockdown Extension: SGF Hints On Extension As Coronavirus Cases Hit 305
The Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) Boss Mustapha, has hinted that President Muhammadu Buhari may extend the 14-day lockdown imposed because of the COVID-19 outbreak.
President of the federation had on March 29, announced an initial 14 days lockdown in Abuja, Lagos and Ogun states.
As at the time of announcement, there were only 111 cases confirmed in the country, however, in the space of 12 days, there are now 305 confirmed cases as at Friday night.
Speaking at a media briefing on Friday, Mustapha, who is also the Chairman of the Presidential Task Force (PTF) on COVID-19, said;
The PTF, a small committee of us, this afternoon, had the privilege of further briefing Mr President on the assessment of our response to COVID-19 and, at the appropriate moment, we will continue to adequately inform Nigerians of government decisions.
He expressed that the decision to either extend or relax the lockdown is exclusive to the President.
Mustapha stated that;
Ours (the PTF) is to provide him with first-hand information that would inform that decision. So, I cannot speculate on that now.
But looking at what is happening in other climes, you would be able to deduce what might likely happen, but I’m not in a position to speculate on that.
Meanwhile, Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) had on Friday confirmed 17 new cases.
There are now 305 total number of Coronavirus cases, 58 discharged cases and 7 deaths across the country.
