Twitter Users React To Katsina Lifting Ban On Juma’at Prayers Despite Death Of Doctor To Coronavirus
Katsina state has lifted the ban on Friday Juma’at prayers, despite the outbreak of Coronavirus and one death recorded in the state.
Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Mustapha Inuwa made the announcement in a statement on Tuesday.
The decision was made after a meeting was held by government officials, religious leaders, traditional rulers, and security agents to review some measures taken by the state to prevent the spread of COVID-19 in Katsina.
The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) had on Tuesday night announced a new case in the state.
The statement reads;
The Executive Governor has directed that the suspension of Friday prayers be lifted with immediate effect however, the prayers will be conducted under some stipulated health and security guidelines.
It added that;
The Jumu’ah Imams should however, avoid prolonged sermons in order to discharge their followers within the shortest period.
People are also strongly advised to maintain social distancing and adhere strictly to all rules and regulations provided by the health experts in fighting the contagious disease.
It was gathered that some irate youth had on Friday set a police station on fire after a religious leader held a Juma’at prayer following the ban on large gatherings in the state.
This banned lifted by Katsina state has led to an outrage on Twitter, as people express shock over the decision.
See some reactions below;
The Holy Makkah and Madinah is presently on Lockdown and Hajj will probably not hold this year.
But the Governor of Katsina, a state with confirmed case of corona virus, has lifted the suspension of Friday prayers “with immediate effect”
For God’s sake, what do we call this?

Yesterday, a medical doctor died in Katsina of Coronavirus. That same yesterday, the Katsina state government lifted the ban on religious gatherings.
Lol. We are really a stubborn and stupid people. Why do we want calamity to hit before we actually learn?
Cos this is madness.

From the desk of the irresponsible Governor of Katsina state:
“Imams should however avoid prolonged sermons in order to discharge their followers within short period”.
Moi: Question so Covid-19 will not spread among people hearing short sermons?😐 pic.twitter.com/zQJaMTc693

Katsina is a state that will only learn from pain. I hope sensible states are observing states like Katsina. And I hope people are watching.
Because when this thing hits fully,
It will be sad but I will be here to say we all knew this was a foolish move but nobody said anything. pic.twitter.com/0DfgNb8xOU— #OurFavOnlineDoc 🛂 (@DrOlufunmilayo) April 8, 2020

Gov. Masari in his infinite wisdom thought it wise to lift the ban on Friday prayers despite having a COVID-19 death in Katsina.
Lol!
If u think ur religious rights/beliefs are more important than the safety of those around u, then u’re a terrible person regardless of ur faith.

The Katsina State Govt, by extension Nigeria, are playing with FIRE.
If Buhari likes, he should not call him to order before Katsina becomes an epicentre of Coronavirus.
Even, the Holy land is closed at their time. Bunch of religious sycophants. pic.twitter.com/c5he0Fnyzc
