155 deaths in Yobe
At least 155 persons have died in Gashua and Potiskum areas of Yobe State over the last six days after exhibiting symptoms related with coronavirus.

The deaths, which have caused panic among residents of the state, is similar to the ‘mysterious death’ of over 640 Kano residents in one week. The Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 later confirmed that the deaths in Kano were coronavirus-related.

Between April 30 and May 5, 98 people died in Potiskum, a source told SaharaReporters on Wednesday.

The source said;

Cemeteries are now the busiest places in these towns. In Gashua town, at least 57 have died. Those dying are mostly elders, yet the state Committee on COVID-19 is sleeping in Damaturu as if nothing is happening.

Governor of the state, Mai Mala Buni has been away in Abuja where he spends more than 80 per cent of his time since he was elected into office.

Buni was recently in the news for gifting 14 Emirs luxury Sports Utility Vehicles worth over N600m despite the poverty rate in the state.

Some lawmakers from Yobe spoke against the governor’s action saying it was slowing down governance in the state.

Meanwhile, a six-year-old girl, who is the daughter of the index coronavirus case in Kazaure Local Government Area of Jigawa State, has tested positive for the virus.

Commissioner for Health and Chairman of State Task Force on COVID-19, Dr Abba Zakari, made this known in Dutse, the state capital.

Zakari explained that out of the total number of 18 samples collected in the contact tracing of the Kazaure index case, only the little girl’s sample turned out to be positive.

According to the latest statistics released by the Nigeria Center for Disease Control on Tuesday night, Jigawa has 39 confirmed cases of COVID-19 with one death recorded.
