Lagos Coronavirus patient gives birth to a baby girl
A 37-year-old woman diagnosed with coronavirus has delivered a baby boy at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH), Idi-Araba.

The hospital made this known in a press statement on Tuesday but did not state the COVID-19 status of the baby.

The statement read;

A team of LUTH doctors, anaesthetists and nurses delivered another woman diagnosed with COVID-19 of a baby boy (Birth weight: 2.6kg). The mother and baby are doing well. We celebrate our committed frontline staff for this achievement.

The 37-year-old mother was delivered of the baby via a caesarean section on Saturday, May 9.

On April 27, LUTH had also successfully delivered a 40-year-old COVID-19 patient of a baby girl.

As of May 11, the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control said Lagos had recorded 1,933 confirmed cases of COVID-19, out of which 1,398 are active cases. Lagos has also recorded 502 recoveries and 33 deaths.

Meanwhile, the Sokoto government has discharged 22 out of the 75 active cases of COVID-19 at the state’s isolation centres in Amanawa after testing negative twice.

Ali Inname, chairman of the Sokoto task force committee on COVID-19 and commissioner for health, announced this on Tuesday while briefing reporters.

He described the number of recoveries as the “highest so far achieved by the state.”

According to him, as at May 11, the state had recorded 106 confirmed COVID-19, out of which 12 patients have died.

The commissioner explained that 30 percent are females while 70 percent are males.

Iname said 19 persons had earlier been discharged from the isolation centre.

The chairman said the state had traced 874 contacts, out of which 431 persons had been tested for the virus.

He advised residents in the state not to stigmatize discharged patients saying coronavirus is not a death sentence.
