Breaking: COVID-19 Toll In Nigeria Exceeds 6,000 After NCDC Confirmed 216 New Cases

Total coronavirus infection toll in Nigeria has scaled up to over 6,000 after 216 cases were announced on Monday night.

This new toll indicates an increase of about 19 percent just four days after hitting the 5,000 cases mark. This means between May 14th and May 18th, Nigeria recorded 1013 additional cases.

Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) confirmed this new figure via its Twitter page.

It stated that;

It would be recalled that on Sunday, Nigeria recorded 5959 total cases with 1594 discharged patients and 182 causalities.

Now, with the new toll, there are 6175 total cases, 1644 discharged and 191 deaths across the country.

Also, NCDC in its daily COVID-19 report said that total samples tested across the country have increased from 33,970 to 35,345 as at May 17th.

In other news, President Buhari has approved a two-week extension of the current phase of the gradual lockdown ease, effective from today 18th May to 1st June, 2020.

Chairman of Presidential Task Force on COVID-19, Boss Mustapha, announced this during the Presidential Task Force (PTF) COVID-19 daily briefing on Monday.

According to the Chairman, the current phase of the lockdown ease put in place yielded results and require consolidation, hence the reason for the extension.
