Federal Government has evacuated 286 Nigerians stranded in China due to the COVID-19 lockdown.

The evacuees arrived the Nnamdi Azikwe International Airport, Abuja, on Saturday.

The Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), while announcing the arrival on Twitter stated that the returnees would be proceeding on compulsory 14 days isolation.

NIDCOM’s tweet reads;

268 stranded Nigerians in China lands in Abuja International Airport at exactly 2:30pm Nigerian time today 30th May 2020. All evacuees will be proceeding on compulsory 14 days quarantine as mandated by NCDC and Federal Ministry of Health.

Over 900 Nigerians have been successfully evacuated from United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom, United States and Saudi Arabia.

The new evacuation comes a day after China evacuated 325 of its citizens from Nigeria via an Air Peace flight headed for Shanghai.

The plane departed Nigeria on Thursday night.

It is however unconfirmed whether Chinese medics who came into the country on April 8 are among those who returned to China.

Similarly, the United States of America evacuated 270 of her citizens from Nigeria earlier this month.

France, Lebanon and the UK, are also countries that have evacuated their nationals from Nigeria since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic.
