Cynthia Morgan, a renown raggae/dancehall artiste have drawn sympathy from many Nigerians after narrating why she suddenly went off the music scene despite being an household name few years ago.
Quite popular in Nigeria for her unique style of music and voice, the singer unexpectedly went off the grid in 2017 after the last song she released, No Camera’s.
In a recent Instagram live video, Cynthia Morgan joined Ex Miss Globe Nigeria, Cassandra Ogbebor, revealing that she had a fall out with the record label she was signed to, Northside Inc., owned by Jude Engees Okoye and her contract was not renewed after the feud.
During the Instalive chat, the dancehall star recalled losing the right to use her birth name ‘Cynthia Morgan’ for other businesses, her VEVO account, royalties, Instagram account and other things due to the contract she signed and the dispute she had with the record label executive, Jude.
According to the singer, she had ‘dirt’ on Jude Okoye and would have won if she pushed further, but decided at the time that it was not a necessary move.
She however became depressed thereafter and was ill for 6 months which made her relocate to Benin to save cost for treatment of the illness that almost took her life.
Answering a question on why she did not speak up about her predicament at that time, Cynthia Morgan who now goes by the name ‘Madrina’, said she wasn’t ready to talk because she believed it was a phase of life she had to surmount herself.
She also admitted that some colleagues in the music industry reached out to her, but never mentioned her situation to them.
The singer disclosed that she is open for a partnership to help her stage a comeback but not interested in signing under a record label anymore, citing her past experience.
This emotional story caught the attention of fans of the singer who have been wondering about her whereabouts before now as they collaborate to bring the music star back to limelight, after her long hiatus.
A GoFundMe account has been been launched by her fans who expressed sympathy towards her situation and other volunteers have also come up with initiatives to bring Cynthia Morgan now ‘Madrina’ back on her feet.
Some music executives and artistes have reacted to Cynthia Morgan’s story, one of which include singer Davido’s brother and Chairman of HKN Music Group,Adewale Adeleke.
He stated that fans are quick to blame labels or managers for ruining careers of artistes even when they (artistes) sometimes cause their own downfall.
He tweeted;
Fans be so quick to blame labels or managers for ruining artist careers but when the artist make it, its by their own doing…..doesn’t add up!!!!
Think about it when artist are successful nobody credits the label, or Managers for money or time spent pushing the artist it’s the artist, But let an artist be relevant & go down its the label. The label is greedy the label took all my royalties they left me for dead….
I’m not saying some labels can take artist for a ride and give out horrible contracts. Everyone should remember these artist signed contracts willingly, but some times its the artist themselves that bring their own downfall, no one else!
The brother of Jude Okoye, Morgan’s former boss, Peter Okoye of the defunct Psquare music Group also reacted, recalling how the singer rejected the contract he gave her because his brothers (Jude and Paul) made him look like the ‘bad egg.’
Peter stated that he decided to cut off the relationship he had with his brothers 3 years ago, to be free from the drama going on behind the scene.
He tweeted;
My dear C Morgan, The decision i made 3yrs ago was never about the fame,money or power! It was for my FREEDOM!
Sad you rejected the contract i gave u. Just because they made you see me like the bad egg. I pray you understand that God has a purpose for everything. Never give up
The Truth shall prevail. God will surely see you through C Morgan… Gnight

One thing I know about this Cynthia Morgan ’s case is that, if she was with Donjazzy or Davido, she’d never suffered like this… Just look at Korede Bello, see the way Don jazzy is pushing him back into the industry, Those are the people we can call leaders!!!!

How Cynthia Morgan went from First frame to the second frame is totally shocking to say the least.
What’s really wrong?
But curiously enough, there has NEVER been any artiste that thrived and became successful under the P-Square label.
May D was an obvious example 😢 pic.twitter.com/jgJiSEjVEZ— AURA❤️COOL (@TWEETORACLE) May 24, 2020

Also, if Cynthia Morgan raises the bar and relaunches her career, the song better sweet o.
Because experience has also taught me that pity is not a strategy for breaking in music.
All this outrage feels warm and nice. But these hot-takes will not stream her art. Na TL all end.
