Nigerians Asks FG To Extend Lockdown In Lagos Amid Spike In Coronavirus Cases
Nigerians have clamored for the extension of lockdown earlier imposed on Lagos, Ogun, FCT over the alarming increase of coronavirus cases in the country.
The clamor comes barely a week after Nigerians were seen violating social distancing guidelines by overcrowding banks, markets and other public places on May 4th when the lockdown ease began.
As a result, many are clamoring for the extension of the lockdown after Lagos – the epicentre of the virus in Nigeria – recorded 183 new cases on Thursday night.
The number which left many alarmed, was announced by Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), who reported a total of 381 new cases – the highest single-day toll recorded yet in the country

However, as many call for a lockdown extension, others feel differently, saying more government palliatives would be needed to make people stay indoors.
See mixed reactions below;
With NCDC reporting 381 cases of coronavirus in Nigeria n 183 caes in Lagos, all we r asking for is an #extendlockdown FG needs to provide paliative before embarking on this

Y’all want the government to #extendlockdown without palliatives? You and I know how hard putting food on the table is in Nigeria! This is very sad tbvh! We all should just fast and pray to God as a nation and plead for God’s mercy 😞

The idea of #extendlockdown is brilliant if this Government provides palliatives for people just as in other countries but asking people who feed daily from sales to mouth to Stay at home with nothing and eat what sand?

183 in Lagos
If these figures are true, here are the possible outcomes in a week time
1. Nigeria will hit 10k cases
2. Govt will #extendlockdown
3. Mortality rate will skyrocket
4. @NCDCgov will complain of poor funding
5. Nigerians will still be Nigerians pic.twitter.com/1M5iHiIbHm— 1 (@giftogabk18) May 7, 2020

The recovery rate is increasing. If we had a proper lockdown we would curb the spread and many of those with it would recover

Similarly, the Federal Government has warned of a possible fresh lockdown of the country over the violation of the guidelines on the ease of the lockdown in the country.
The National Coordinator of the Presidential Task Force (PTF) on COVID-19, Dr. Sani Aliyu gave the warning on Thursday in Abuja, at the 27th joint national briefing of the committee.
According to him, Nigerians must continue to respect and follow all the guidelines instituted, and the task force may be pushed to review and possibly change them if compliance with the eased lockdown guidelines continues to be a problem.
Dr. Aliyu stressed;
This is why we need everyone to fully comply with all the guidelines issued. Please respect and follow all the guidelines we have instituted. If we continue to see violations of these guidelines, we will be pushed to review and possibly change them.
He said;
While we have allowed the relaxation of the lockdown, we are putting measures in place to curb COVID-19 spread. Our modelling shows that the positive effects of full compliance with the Eased lockdown will be very similar to the effect of a full lockdown.
