Police offer dies from Coronavirus
An officer of the Nigerian Police Force (NPF) has died from coronavirus complications at the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Abeokuta, Ogun State.

This brings the number of coronavirus related deaths recorded at the facility within a week to two.

A pregnant woman had earlier died at the same hospital on May 2 shortly before her COVID-19 test result returned as positive.

The Head of Public Relations at FMC, Segun Orisajo, on Sunday morning, confirmed the death of the unnamed police officer.

According to Orisajo, the deceased was brought into the General Outpatients Department at FMC about three days ago, later died same day.

The spokesperson said the officer’s COVID-19 test result returned positive on Sunday morning, adding that;

His body is being prepared for release to his family for burial in strict compliance with World Health Organizations guidelines. All staff, who came in contact with the deceased, are currently on self isolation.

Orisajo had on Saturday night, confirmed three new cases involving two staff of the hospital – a nurse and administrative staff – as well as another patient, Daily Trust reports.

Ogun State now has 115 positive cases of coronavirus according to the Nigeria Centre of Disease Control’s data released on May 9, 2020.

Meanwhile, a Kano monarch known as Dan’iya of Kano, Alhaji Yusuf Bayero, has died in the early hours of Sunday.

He was the district head of Dawakin Kudu Local Government Area since his appointment in 1993.

Although the cause of his death is yet to be made public, the 87-year-old will be buried according to Islamic rites on Sunday.
