Singer Jaywon Arrested, Sentenced For Violating Curfew Order In Lagos State
Nigerian singer, Iledare Olajuwonlo-James better known as Jaywon has been sentenced to pay a fine of N10,000 and do a 30-minutes community service for violating the overnight curfew operational in Lagos state.
It would be recalled that the President had on April 27 declared a 8pm to 6am daily nationwide curfew in a bid to check the spread of coronavirus.
Jaywon was arrested on Monday by the Dolphin Estate Division of the Lagos State Police Command, following the violation of the curfew order and for not wearing a face mask.
The ‘This Year’ crooner who was driving to an unknown destination around 11pm was intercepted by policemen and taken into custody on Monday.
Jaywon, whose statement was taken at the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department, Panti, Yaba, was charged before a mobile court on Tuesday May 5.
He pleaded guilty to the charges levelled against him, and was sentenced.
Confirming the incident, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Bala Elkana, said Jaywon was among the 179 persons arrested for violating the curfew and refusing to use face masks in the state.
He added that 79 vehicles were also impounded for violating the curfew.
This comes few days after the federal government eased the lockdown in Lagos, Ogun and Abuja to reduce the impact of the coronavirus pandemic and lockdown.
Last month, actress Funke Akindele alongside her husband JJC Skillz was arrested for hosting a house party in their home in Lagos state.
The party was a violation of the social distancing and lockdown order put in place by the government to curb the spread of coronavirus in the country.
Akindele and JJC Skillz were fined N100,000 each and also sentenced to 14 days of community service.
