72 Health Workers Test Positive For Coronavirus In Enugu
Enugu State Ministry of Health has said 72 health care workers in the state have tested positive for COVID-19.
The Commissioner for Health in Enugu, Dr Obi Ikechukwu, confirmed this in a statement on Friday while giving an update on the outbreak of the disease in the state.
This comes four days after the state’s Ministry of Health announced that 49 healthcare workers tested positive for the virus.
Obi also announced that 28 new cases of COVID-19 in the state as announced on Thursday night by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC).
According to the commissioner, this brings the total number of laboratory-confirmed cases of coronavirus in the state to 202.
Of the infections, 160 cases are receiving treatment at the government’s facility and 37 recovered patients have been discharged.
Dr Ikechukwu added that five people have died from complications related to COVID-19.
He urged the residents to be responsible and stay in their various homes when it was not absolutely necessary to go out.
The commissioner stressed that it was important for residents to wear face masks when in public places, as well as keep a safe distance from other people at all times.
He also asked residents to report to the relevant authorities if they develop symptoms or know anyone who may have developed symptoms of the disease.
Dr Ikechukwu warned the residents to live according to the NCDC protocol as COVID19 is real.
As at Thursday, there were 22,614 confirmed cases in Nigeria, 7,822 discharged patients and 549 deaths.
