A 16-year-old girl, Timilehin Taiwo, who killed a man who attempted to rape her, has been freed by a court in Lagos, it emerged on Wednesday.
The young girl was arrested by officers of the Lagos state police command for stabbing Ishola, to death at the Aboru area of the state on March 7th, 2020.
Taiwo, was later charged to court for the murder of 51-year-old Babatunde Ishola who allegedly tried to rape her.
In her statement, Timilehin explained that the deceased who is her father’s friend, who lives alone, invited her to his house to help him with house chores, just like she usually did for him.
Timilehin said while she was helping the deceased, he attempted to rape her but she picked up a knife and stabbed him in an attempt to defend herself.
A Yaba Magistrates court has now freed her on Wednesday, June 10.
At the hearing of the case on Wednesday, Magistrate Philip Adebowale Ojo struck out the murder charge filed by the police against Timilehin following advice from the Lagos State Directorate of Public Prosecution (DPP).
The Director of Lagos State Office of the Public Defender (OPD), Dr. Babajide Martins, whose office defended the teenager pro bono, expressed satisfaction with the court’s decision.
