Edo: PDP Postpones Governorship Primaries

Peoples Democratic Party has announced the postponement of its gubernatorial primaries in Edo State, it emerged on Thursday.

The Primaries which was due to take place on Friday 19th and Saturday 20th June, has now been postponed to Tuesday, June 23rd, 2020.

PDP’s National Publicity Secretary, Kola Ologbondiyan made this known on his Twitter page.

He wrote;

The Peoples Democratic Party has postponed its primary election in Edo State to Tuesday, June, 23rd, 2020.

Reason for the postponement a day to the primaries was however not stated.

Meanwhile, the PDP on Wednesday vowed that there will be no automatic ticket for the governor of Edo State, Godwin Obaseki to vie for re-election if he decamps to the party.

Hon. Tony Aziegbemi, the party’s chairman in Edo State said the party is very much prepared for the primaries coming up in the next two days, with the hope of cruising to victory at the poll come September this year.

This comes few days after Governor Obaseki resigned from his party, All Progressive Council (APC) after his disqualification from participating in Edo APC’s governorship primaries slated for June 22, 2020.

Governor Obaseki was disqualified over ‘defective’ secondary school leaving certificate and NYSC certificate.

His Deputy Philip Shaibu, also resigned from APC on Tuesday as well as a Speaker of Edo State House of Assembly, 14 Members of House of assembly, 16 LGA Chairmen and 196 councilors.
