FG Orders Investigation Of Vera Omozuwa’s Death And Abuse Of 12-Year-Old Girl In Jigawa
Federal Government has directed the police to diligently investigate the gang-rape and murder of Vera Uwaila Omozuwa in Benin.
The FG also instructed that 11 men involved in the serial sexual abuse of a 12-year-old girl in Jigawa State be prosecuted.
The Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed said this through his media aide, Segun Adeyemi on Tuesday.
Alhaji Mohammed stated that bringing the perpetrators of the heinous crimes to justice will serve as a strong notice of the Federal Government’s total aversion to gender-based violence.
The Minister described the gang-rape and murder of Omozuwa, who was a student at the University of Benin, as;
A cruel and barbaric act that offends human sensibility, in addition to being antithetical to decency and no society will tolerate such depravity.
He also said the serial sexual abuse of the minor in Jigawa state by 11 men is also highly condemnable.

Alhaji Mohammed noted that;
It is said that the true measure of a society can be found in how it treats its most vulnerable members.
He assured that the Federal Government will do everything possible to stem the growing tide of gender-based violence in the country.
Meanwhile, the Management of the University of Benin (UNIBEN), has on Monday visited family of late Vera Omozuwa to commiserate with them on the death of their daughter.
UNIBEN Dean of Students Affairs, Prof. Patrick Igbinaduwa, who led the visit, described the murder of Omozuwa as unfortunate and evil.
In a statement issued, Prof.Igbinaduwa called on relevant authorities to step in and fish out the perpetrators of the evil act.
