George Floyd: Kanye West Joins Protest, Donates $2 Million And Pays College Tuition For Floyd’s 6-Year-Old Daughter

Kanye West officially a billionaire
Award-winning rapper and entrepreneur, Kanye West has made a $2 million donation to support the families of George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery and Breonna Taylor, three black persons who were recently unlawfully killed in the US.

A representative for West told CNN on Thursday, saying the donation includes funding for legal fees for Arbery and Taylor’s families, and to black-owned businesses affected by the protest looting in his hometown, Chicago and other cities.

The source also revealed that the latest billionaire established a 529 education fund to fully cover college tuition for Gianna Floyd, 6-year-old daughter of George Floyd.

West’s donation comes as demonstrations against Floyd, Arbery and Taylor‘s deaths continues around the world.

In solidarity with protests, Rapper Kanye West also joined a march on Thursday in Chicago’s South Side.

Many voices in the entertainment industry have lent their voices to the protests by joining physical and/or virtual protest, calling for an end to systematic racism, police brutality and action from political leadership.

Meanwhile, three of the Minneapolis Police officers arrested over Floyd‘s death make their first court appearance on Thursday afternoon, as Floyd’s family holds the first of several planned memorial services.

It would be recalled that Derek Chauvin, the officer who pinned Floyd to the ground by his neck for nearly 9 minutes, was arrested last week and charged with third-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter.

On Wednesday, prosecutors charged him with a more serious count of second-degree murder alongside three other officers who were involved.

Arbery, a black man, was fatally shot while jogging outside Brunswick, Georgia on February 23. Three white men in connection to his death have been arrested.

Taylor was an emergency medical worker  who was shot at least eight times in March inside her Kentucky apartment after police allegedly busted in without warning and opened fire.

The FBI on Thursday announced that it has opened an investigation into Taylor’s death due to media pressure and requests.
