Here Is The Full List Of Winners For BET Awards 2020
The 2020 BET Awards, which stands to honor Black community’s excellence in entertainment and sports, held its first-ever virtual ceremony on Sunday night due to the ongoing global coronavirus pandemic.
The awards ceremony is one of the numerous events that had to hold virtually, while some other events were either cancelled or suspended for later time.
The event, hosted by former ‘The Real’ co-host and ‘Insecure’ actress Amanda Seales was also the 20th anniversary of BET’s existence.
It was aired simultaneously via ViacomCBS networks and, for the first time ever, on CBS in its national broadcast.
During the three-hour show broadcast, Lil Wayne performed a powerful tribute in honor of NBA legend Kobe Bryant and his daughter Gigi, who both died in a helicopter crash earlier this year.
There was performances from stars like Alicia Keys, Chloe x Halle, DaBaby, D Smoke, Jennifer Hudson, John Legend, Jonathan McReynolds, Kane Brown, Lil Wayne, Megan Thee Stallion, Roddy Ricch, SiR, Summer Walker, Usher and Wayne Brady.
Though having six nominations, which is the highest number, Drake took home just one gong.
Megan Thee Stallion, Roddy Ricch, Lizzo, and more took home trophies, while Beyoncé was honoured with the annual Humanitarian Award.
Megan Thee Stallion, who received five nominations, took home two trophies, being crowned the ‘Best Female Hip-Hop Artist’.
DaBaby won the ‘Best Male Hip-Hop Artist.’
Beyoncé accepted the BET Humanitarian Award from former First Lady Michelle Obama and also won the ‘BET HER Award’ for her song ‘Brown Skin Girl.’
The award is also a win for Wizkid due to his contribution to song. And Blue Ivy Carter, Beyoncé’s daughter at age 8, won her very first BET Award, also for her input in the song.
One of the highlights of the ceremony was singer Burna Boy winning the BET Award for ‘Best International Act’ ahead of Stormzy, Dave Innoss’B, Sho Madjozi and others.
However, Mavin Records star Rema lost the ‘Viewers’ Choice: Best New International Act’ to Sha Sha from Zimbabwe.
Roddy Ricch also beat Lil Nas X to the Best New Artist award, while Chris Brown went home with the Best Male R&B/Pop Artist Award.
