Self-acclaimed billionaire and Instagram celebrity, Ray Hushpuppi has been allegedly arrested by International Police (Interpol) in Dubai, UAE for fraud.
According to a yet to be confirmed report, he was arrested alongside some other friends, one of whom is simply identified as Woodberry.
It is alleged that they were arrested on the ground of Covid-19 ventilator $35million fraud, which was purported to be given to Native Americans during the coronavirus pandemic.
Hushpuppi’s arrest was reportedly confirmed after close friends and some business faithfuls could not reach him because his phone was off.
It would be recalled that a Nigerian socialite and Instagram celebrity also based in Dubai, Ismaila Mustapha, popularly known as Mompha, was similarly arrested at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja on October 19.
His arrest was made by Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and was arraigned before Justice Mohammed Liman on a 14-count charge.
His charges bordered on fraud, money laundering and running a foreign exchange business without the authorisation of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).
He was then re-arraigned on March 5 before Justice Mohammed Liman of a Federal High Court sitting in Ikoyi, Lagos, on an amended 22-count charge.
Mompha’s arrest was made by EFCC after he allegedly fled Dubai to evade arrest by Interpol and FBI.
Similarly, two months ago, twenty-four individuals including thirteen Nigerians were arrested by International agents for their involvement in a $30 million fraud and money laundering operation in the United States.
The US department of justice in a statement said the suspects duped many victims who are US citizens through romance fraud scams, business email compromise schemes, and retirement account scams, among other frauds.
