Many Feared Dead As Gunmen Attack Bank, Police Station In Kogi
Gunmen have reportedly attacked a First Bank branch in Isanlu town under Yagba East local government area of Kogi State, leaving unconfirmed number of persons dead.
The attackers also invaded the Divisional Police headquarters in the town, killing some officers on duty, Daily Trust reports.
A source told the media outlet that the gunmen destroyed properties at the police headquarters and made away with some weapons.
According to the source, the gunmen who were about seven in number arrived the First Bank in two vehicles and left several persons dead after their operation.
He said the attackers killed security personnel outside the entrance of the bank before gaining access into the building, where they also allegedly killed some bank officials, customers and more security personnel.
The source stated that the attackers operated for more than an hour before driving off in their vehicles, carting away money.
Kogi Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP William Ayah has confirmed the incident, saying it was reported by some civilians.
He added the actual casualty of the incident was yet to be ascertained but that men of the Force have been deployed to the area to assess and calm the situation.
