Lionel Messi has scored the 700th goal of his career on Tuesday after scoring a penalty against Atletico Madrid in La Liga.

Messi, who turned 33 on June 24, netted a goal after 50 minutes to put his team 2-1 ahead against Madrid.

The game ended at 2-2 with Diego Costa and Lionel Messi scoring for Barcelona and Saul Ñíguez netting two goals for Madrid.

Messi’s 700 goals include 630 for Barcelona and 70 for Argentina.

During those 700 goals, Messi has smashed all sorts of incredible goalscoring records.

In 2012, he scored 91 goals for club and country in just 69 matches.

During the 2011/12 season, Messi scored 50 goals in La Liga. He got himself on the scoresheet 73 times that season – breaking the record for most goals in a club season.

He is also the only player to score more than 40 goals in ten consecutive seasons which he’s managed until this season.

Messi has won the most European Golden Shoe awards with six and is the all-time top scorer in Europe’s big five leagues.
