Mother of a Florida man, Aaron Glee Jr, accused of killing Nigerian-American teenage Black Lives Matter protester, Oluwatoyin Salau and an elderly woman, Victoria Sims, has said her son called her from jail and confessed to the crime.
The 49-year-old suspect was arrested on Sunday for the deaths of 19-year-old Salau and 75-year-old Sims, according to court statement released on Tuesday, USA Today reports.
It would be recalled that MDB reported the death of the young activist, Salau on Monday, after it sparked outrage on social media as many called for justice.
Before Salau went missing on June 6th, the young lady tweeted about how she was molested by a black man who posed as a ‘man of God’ that same day.
The man offered to help her get her belongings from a church she took refuge at after she left her previous poor living condition.
According to Salau’s tweets, the man sexually assaulted her at his house where she took shelter for the night.
Unfortunately, she went missing after she shared her sexual molestation experience, only to be found dead after 9 days in Glee’s house.
Victoria Sims, who was a retired state worker, grandmother and volunteer at American Association of Retired Persons (AARP), was also found dead in the suspect’s house.
Glee’s 67-year-old mother, Sandra Cutliff revealed that her son said he met Salau on a bus and invited her to his house so she could shower.
He told her the teenager asked him for the drug ecstasy and when he refused, she bit him and called him a slur name, sending him into a rage.
She explained;
He told me that after she got out of the shower she wanted ‘molly’ (name of a hard drug). He told her he was not going to buy it. He said she called him a ‘fucking nigger’ and bit him. That is what triggered him off.
Glee was arrested in Orlando on Sunday after police used GPS to track Sims’ phone and found the two women’s bodies in a home he rented in Tallahassee, police said in a press release.
Cutliff said Glee who knew Sims so well he called the elderly woman his ‘white grandmother,’ angered him when she visited and called him a ‘slob,’ so he killed her.
Salau, whose body was found on Saturday, recently spoke at a George Floyd rally in Tallahassee, where she met Sims, a well-known local campaigner for Democratic politics.
Sims was last seen June 11, and Salau on June 6, but it is unclear whether or not the women knew each other before their deaths or exactly when they died.
Cutliff said she did not know why her son allegedly committed the two murders, but said he suffered from mental health problems — and had been in a psychotic downward spiral in recent weeks, DailyMail reports.
Glee’s criminal record dates to 1989, which includes robbery, car theft and credit card fraud convictions.
At the time of the killing of both women, Glee was only out on bail after he was arrested in Leon County for aggravated battery on May 30. He was released on June 1 on a $2,500 bond.
The suspect was also accused of battery in connection with a May 28 incident and charges were filed on June 9.
Police has on Tuesday released photos of the Florida house where the bodies of Salau and Sims were found.
According to Tallahassee Police Department, Glee has now been charged with murder and kidnapping on Tuesday, June 17.
