Vera Omozuwa: Edo Police Arrests Suspect Linked To Rape And Murder Of UNIBEN Student
Edo State Police Command has arrested a suspect linked to the brutal rape and murder of Vera Uwaila Omozuwa.
The 22-year-old girl was raped and killed on Friday May 27th near Ikpoba Hill in Benin City, at a branch of Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG).
The deceased who was an 100-level student at the University of Benin had gone to the church to read in preparation of a possible school resumption after months of schools closedown as a result of coronavirus pandemic.
Omozuwa was raped and smashed in the head with a fire extinguisher, which led to her death.
The Spokesman of Edo Police Command, Chidi Nwabuzor has now revealed that that a suspect was arrested after the fingerprint on the fire extinguisher she was attacked with was examined.
Nwabuzor expressed that operatives of the command arrested the suspect after the Area Commander of Ikpoba Hill mobilized his men to take action.
He said;
The item used in the assault, which was a fire extinguisher, was recovered. Immediately, the operatives who were with some specialists screened the finger prints which led to our suspect. The suspect was arrested close to the place of the incident.
This comes a day after Inspector general of Police, IGP Adamu announced that investigative aids have been deployed to Edo to help speed up the investigations into Omozuwa’s death.
He assured that the perpetrators of the crime will be brought to book in the shortest possible time.
The rape and murder of Uwa Omozuwa, has been condemned by many Nigerians all over the country, resulting into virtual protest against rape.
