Death Toll From Collapsed Lagos Building Rises To Three (photos)

Two more corpses have been recovered by emergency responders combing the scene where a three-storey building collapsed on Freeman Street, in the Lagos Island area of Lagos State on Friday.

MDB earlier reported that one person was confirmed dead while six others were rescued alive after the building collapsed on them.

The incident occurred at about 4.05 am as the building totally collapsed, trapping occupants who were fast asleep, Vanguard reports.

The neighbours of the victims were said to have alerted emergency responders about the incident but on arrival, the first victim to be recovered, who was a male child, was already dead.

However rescue operation team have now recovered two more bodies and rescued three other victims alive.

Those alive have been administered medical treatment by Lagos State Ambulance Services (LASSMBUS), while the casualties have also been deposited at the morgue.

Director-General, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu confirmed the incident.

He said;

The Agency responded to emergency calls on the collapsed building at Freeman Street, in the Lagos Island area of Lagos State.

Upon arrival at the incident scene at 4am, a three-storey building was discovered to have totally collapsed on people asleep inside.

Nine victims have been extricated from the rubble alive while three bodies were recovered dead. Their remains were transported to the mortuary by SEHMU while pre-hospital care has been administered to the nine victims by LASEMA and LASAMBUS.

Oke-Osanyintolu stated that investigations will be conducted to unravel the cause of the incident.
