American actress and singer, Naya Rivera has gone missing and is presumed dead after she went boating with her four-year-old son on Lake Piru in Ventura County, California on Wednesday, July 8.
The ‘Glee’ actress reportedly rented a boat at the lake to go boating and swimming with her son, Josey Dorsey, on Wednesday afternoon.
However, about three hours later another boater spotted a boat on the lake drifting with a young child asleep on board, wearing a life jacket.
The boater contacted the rental facility and security authorities who began a search for the child’s parent using an aerial survey and a dive team.
The boat had only the actress’ 4–year-old son wearing a life jacket asleep.
Sheriff’s Department Cpt. Dean Worthy told The Los Angeles Times that investigators arrived at the scene around 4:40 p.m. and found a toddler unharmed, but were still searching for the mother, who was nowhere to be found.
According to Captain Eric Buschow, a spokesman for the Venture County Sheriff’s Office, Rivera possibly drowned but a search has been launched to locate her body.
Buschow said Dorsey was found sleeping on the boat by himself by other boaters in the lake, stressing that;
He is in good health. The boy was initially reported by authorities to be a 3-year-old girl. The family is going through a very traumatic time right now.
He stated that search operation was ongoing to find her, dead or alive, as a huge operation has been launched using helicopters, drones and dive teams.
Rivera played ‘Santana Lopez’ on the Fox show, Glee, for six years from 2009, and appeared in nearly every episode of the musical-comedy-drama.
She was also on the CBS sitcom ‘The Royal Family’ and in the comedy film ‘The Master of Disguise.’
Rivera was previously married to actor Ryan Dorsey.
