American rapper Kanye West has announced that he will hold his first campaign event on Sunday at 5pm in the state of South Carolina, US.

This comes days after there were reports that West had abandoned his plans less than two weeks after announcing his hopes to become president.

An election strategist, Steve Kramer that West hired told the Intelligencer that he was out of the race, but soon after, the star proved he is still pushing on with his bid by filling out a statement of candidacy with the US Federal Election Commission (FEC).

West has now announced that he will host Sunday’s event at the Exquis Event Center in North Charleston for registered guests only, Politico news reports.

All attendees will be required to wear masks, observe social distancing and sign a COVID-19 liability release form.

He had tweeted on Saturday for supporters to get him on the ballot in South Carolina.

Hi guys please sign up to put me on the ballot in South Carolina at any of these locations. You can also sign up at the website.

West, who announced his White House campaign on the fourth of July, filed a statement of candidacy with the FEC last week, listing “BDY”the Birthday Party — as his party affiliation.

It is unclear how West would qualify to get on the ballot in South Carolina as the deadline to file signatures as an independent candidate was July 15. He has also missed the deadline to qualify for the ballot in several states.

However, West last week filed the necessary paperwork and paid the $35,000 filing to register as an independent candidate in Oklahoma, where the deadline had not yet passed.

The 43-year-old‘s late entry to the campaign trail comes as Democratic nominee Joe Biden leads President Donald Trump by 9 percentage points, according to the RealClearPolitics polling average.
