Nigerians Kick As Senate Urges FG To Name Ibadan Airport After Late Ajimobi
Senate has urged the Federal Government to immortalise a former Governor of Oyo State, Senator Abiola Ajimobi, by renaming the Ibadan Airport after him.
This comes few weeks after Ajimobi, who a principal officer in the Senate between 2003 and 2007, passed on June 25 as a result of multiple organ failure.

The resolution of the Senate followed a motion moved by Senator Abdulfatai Buhari (Oyo North), urging the Senate to pay tribute to the departed former Senator.
He described the deceased as a ‘jinx breaker’ for returning for the second time as a governor, which was the first time in the political history of Oyo state that a serving governor got a second term.
The Senate also resolved to send a high-powered delegation to commiserate with the family and the government and people of Oyo State of the death of the former Governor.
The upper chamber in its resolution on the motion also paid its last respect to the late Senator Ajimobi as it observed a minute silence for the former minority leader of the Senate.
The motion was approved by the Senate when it was put to voice vote by the Senate President, Ahmad Lawan.
Many Nigerians on Twitter have however kicked against the move to rename Ibadan airport after late Senator Ajimobi.
See some reactions below;
What is wrong with Senate bayi?
Is renaming the most important thing Ibadan Airport need right now?
How many roads have they move motion to get repaired in Ibadan?
Is the road leading to the airport in good condition?
When will they move motion for something good in Nigeria? https://t.co/Y8QGQEga7T

Ibadan Airport is Federal Government-owned. The sponsors of the motion should leave things in the hands of Oyo House of Assembly lawmakers. They can rename any Oyo State-owned institution after him.

owes pensioners, embezzle money to buy house in USA, converts state properties/lands to his own and having nothing tangible to achieve as a governor for 8 good years.
Nigerian Senators: let’s rename the ibadan airport after him and build statuses for him round the state. https://t.co/sElhOijlOL

A man that could not built a hospital good enough for his own treatment;
A man who stole govt land, desecrated the Traditional stool of Ibadan, should be immediately immortalised?Could APC just pretend to love this country for once?

For what? Even ajimobi, wherever he is, won’t agree. He knows he doesn’t deserve it.

This confused set with agenda of naming everything after themselves… A time will come, when we will make your children erase all the names except for the ones that are actually adding value to us as a people. Just continue, we are watching closely!

I don’t like this idea of renaming long existing structures after some ass holes who didn’t contribute anything meaningful to the development of this country but simply because they are dead.
Build a new structure and name it after whoever you want to, better that…— Musa Yakubu Mustapha (@MusaYakubuMust2) July 7, 2020
