Another Container Falls, Kills Two In Lagos
Two women have lost their lives after a truck carrying a container rammed into a stationary commercial bus and fell at Odo Olowu area, Ijesha bus-stop in Lagos state on Friday, August 21.
Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, the Director General, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), made this known in a statement on Saturday, August 22.
He said that the LASEMA management received a distress call on its emergency toll free line at about 9:44 p.m on Friday and activated a response team to the incident scene at Odo Olowu bus-stop at Ijesha.
On arrival at the scene, he noted that it was discovered that a truck loaded with an empty 40ft container, which had brake failure, had rammed into a stationary commercial truck and fell.
He explained that the truck driver was rescued by the agency’s responders and taken to the nearest hospital by LASEMA Response Unit Ambulance Service.
Mr Oke-Osanyintolu revealed that two adult females, however, died and their bodies was taken to the mortuary.
This incident comes barely a month after two workers of the Federal Aviation Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) were crushed to death in similar circumstances in Ojota, Lagos state.
