Breaking: Total COVID-19 Caseload Exceeds 53,000 As NCDC Confirms 221 New Cases

Total coronavirus caseload in Nigeria has exceeded 53,000 after Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) recorded 221 new cases.

NCDC in a tweet on its official Twitter handle on Wednesday, August 26 announced;

It would be recalled that on Tuesday, the country’s total cases was 52,800 with 39,964 recoveries and 1007 casualties across the country.

With the latest toll, total cases have now increased to 53,021 with 40,281 recoveries and 1,010 casualties across the country.

Also, NCDC in its latest situation report has revealed that overall samples tested nationwide have increased from 383,130 to 388,346 as at August 25.

Meanwhile, Director-General of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye, has revealed that the agency has received 40 applications for the approval of herbal formulations for the treatment of COVID-19.

Adeyeye made this known on Tuesday, August 25 during a virtual news conference in Abuja.

She expressed;

Forty herbal formulations were currently undergoing review to ensure their safety for use. If not well researched, herbal medicine could kill fast.

Prof. Maurice Iwu’s application for approval of herbal medicine for the management of COVID-19 is also part of the 40 applications we are reviewing for safety. We use an animal for safety test to ensure the formulation will not kill anybody.
