Just In: NCDC Confirms 298 New Cases As Total COVID-19 Toll Exceeds 49,000
Total COVID-19 caseload has surpassed 49,000 after Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) announced 298 new COVID-19 cases on Sunday, August 16.
This comes three days after Nigeria exceeded 48,000 total infections with 48,116 caseload. Between then and now, 952 new cases was recorded.
In the centre’s latest data posted on Twitter, there are now;

On Saturday, there was 48,770 infections, 36,290 recoveries and 974 deaths across the country.
However, there are now 49,068 total cases, 36,497 recoveries and 975 casualties nationwide.
Also, with NCDC’s August 15 situation report, total samples tested nationwide have increased from 347,545 to 350,589.
Meanwhile, Lagos State government has extended the hours of operations of both food markets and non-food markets across the state.
In a series of tweets on Sunday, the Chief Press Secretary to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Gboyega Akosile, said the decision was to further enhance trade and commerce and mitigate the hardship of COVID-19 pandemic.
According to the governor’s spokesman, markets have been permitted to open by 8am and close at 6pm.
Akolise emphasised that the alternate days of operations remain in force, where food markets open on Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday, while non-food markets open on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.
