Just In: NCDC Records 601 New Coronavirus Cases As Total Toll Increases To 51,905

Total COVID-19 cases have increased to 51,905 after Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) recorded 601 new cases on Saturday, August 22.

NCDC in a tweet on its official Twitter handle announced;

It would be recalled that on Friday, the country recorded 51,304 total cases, 37,885 recoveries and 996 fatalities nationwide.

With the latest toll, total cases have now increased to 51,905 with 38,767 recoveries and 997 casualties across the country.

Also, NCDC in its latest situation report has revealed that overall samples tested nationwide have increased from 369,904 to 374,077 as at August 21.

Meanwhile, NCDC Director General, Chikwe Ihekweauzu has said that Nigeria is still in the middle of COVID-19 first wave.

He added that experiencing a second wave in inevitable but managing it is dependent on how it is handled by the country.

The Director-General expressed that the rate of infections can be reduced in coming months by using all tools and strategies available.
