Just In: UNILAG Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ogundipe Allegedly Sacked By Governing Council
Vice-chancellor of the University of Lagos (UNILAG), Professor Olawatoyin Ogundipe, has been allegedly sacked by the school’s governing council on Wednesday, August 12.
The purported sack was announced at a meeting of the Governing Council of the UNILAG held at the National Universities Commission (NUC) in Abuja.
The meeting was presided over by the university’s pro-chancellor and chairman of the council, Wale Babalakin (SAN).
Seven members voted for the removal of Ogundipe while four voted against. One of the members voted that he should rather be placed on suspension.
According to PremiumTimes, Ogundipe was accused of financial impropriety and gross misconduct.
This comes amid conflict between the university’s governing council and the management which led to cancelation of the institution’s week-long convocation scheduled for March.

The cancellation, which was ordered by the Nigerian Universities Commission (NUC) was in response to a directive by the education minister, Adamu Adamu.
Adamu gave the directive after receiving a letter written to the vice-chancellor by the council chairman, accusing Ogundipe of failing to share important details about the ceremony with the council.
