Fire has gutted the office of Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Akure, Ondo state on Thursday night.
According to report from INEC, the inferno gutted containers housing Smart Card Readers and destroyed other electoral materials.
Men of the Fire Service have reportedly arrived at the scene of the fire to contain the outbreak.
National Commissioner, Barrister Festus Okoye, who is in Ondo State, in preparation for the Ondo State Governorship election scheduled for October 10, reportedly rushed to the office at about 8pm.
The Administrative Secretary of the State, Mr. Popoola and some staff of the Commission were also there.
Barrister Okoye said investigation into the cause of the fire will commence promptly after the fire has been contained.
