Adams OshiomholeFormer APC National chairman, Adams Oshiomole has broken his silence about Edo state governorship election, where the party’s candidate, Osagie Ize-Iyamu lost to the incumbent governor of the state, Godwin Obaseki.

Oshiomole who has been in a running battle with Governor Obaseki, worked hard towards the removal of the Governor, in a bid to be replaced with Pastor Ize-Iyamu. However, Obaseki was declared the winner of the election.

Oshiomole stated that he is not any way feeling downcast over the outcome of the election, contrary to expectation by many Nigerians.

He said this during his first interview with GEE Africa TV four days after the election.

The Comrade stated;

You know in life, you work hard and leave God for the outcome. You do your best and trust God to bless your effort.

I feel good. I feel healthy. I thank God. I feel strong, I thank God.

In life, you win some and you lose some but life goes on.

Oshiomole stressed;

I want to thank everybody. I am sure a lot of people think that Comrade must be down. When God says you are not down, you are not down and I am not down.

Speaking further, Oshiomhole urged Nigerians to have faith in the country and see it as the only country that they have.

I ask our people to have faith in our country. They cannot have another country. I have only one passport. I am not about to have any other passport. This is our country. We must make it great. We must strengthen democracy, we must improve on it.

No matter the outcome of an election, have faith in God and have faith in our country.

In the build-up to last Saturday’s election, Oshiomhole had boasted that he was going to teach Godwin Obaseki a lasting lesson in politics.

However, Obaseki won the contest convincingly, silencing Oshiomhole and other stalwarts of the APC including a former governor of Lagos, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, who predicted defeat for him.

Obaseki polled 307,955 votes to defeat Osagie Ize-Iyamu, candidate of the APC, who secured 223,619 votes.

The governor was earlier disqualified from contesting the APC primary election after he fell out with Oshiomhole over the running of Edo State, but Obaseki defected to the PDP where he ran for the election and won.
