Sodomy: Islamic Teacher Arrested For Defiling Two Students
A 35-year-old Islamic teacher, Ibrahim Mohammed, resident in Kadawa Quarters of Kano metropolis, has been arrested by the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) for allegedly sodomising two of his students.
Shehu Umar, the NAPTIP Zonal Commander in charge of Kano state, said an investigation into the matter has been concluded and the case file was currently in the legal department for legal advice before the suspect would be charged to court.
He stated that the suspect was arrested after the command received information that he sodomised his two underage students at Unguwar Kadawa, Kwanar Dillalai Quarters Kano, Tuesday last week.
The NAPTIP boss said the suspect has been an Islamic teacher for the past seven years, adding that the offence is punishable under NAPTIP Act.
Meanwhile, the command confirmed that it has rescued six victims and arrested one suspect for human trafficking in Kano state.
The zonal commander explained that the NAPTIP Joint Board Task Force (JBTF) received intelligence information on the movement of the victims and the suspect.
He explained;
On receiving information, the command carried out an operation on Aug. 23, raided New Paradise Hotel in Sabon Gari Kano, which led to the arrest of the suspect, and rescued the victims.
The victims were camped at the said hotel for subsequent exodus out of Kano to Libya. The victims are from Ogun, Oyo, Imo and Abia. It is an external trafficking offence contrary to section 15(b) of the NAPTIP Act.
Umar called on the general public especially parents to ensure they know the whereabouts of their wards and to always check on them periodically at the various Almajiri schools.
