PTF, headed by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha, had said the government was not comfortable enough to allow schools to reopen.

He also warned state governments to ensure maximum compliance in order not to allow the spread of the pandemic among students.

In latest development, Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu has now given approval for the reopening of Federal schools, as contained in a letter released on Wednesday.

Adamu said that the approval was for students in Junior Secondary School and Senior Secondary School.

He stated that the action is to enable students who have been at home since the outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic to complete their academic session which would end in December.

This means those in boarding houses are to resume on Sunday, October 11, while day students will resume from Monday, October 12.

The Federal Ministry of Education has however advised the schools to strictly observe the COVID-19 protocols upon resumption.

As part of the directives by Adamu to the schools, those that did not conclude second term before the hurried closure in March are to do so before the commencement of third session.

With the reopening of the Federal Government Colleges, expectations are that universities will also resume in a matter of days.
