Alleged Staff Assault: Court Restrains Police From Arresting Former Minister, Kenneth GbagFederal High Court in Abuja, has restrained the police from arresting and detaining Former Minister of State for Education, Kenneth Gbagi.

According to reports, Kenneth Gbagi last Friday arrested the four staff working in Signatious Hotel, Warri, Delta State, after they were stripped naked and photographed inside the hotel before finally handing them over to the police.

After dehumanizing the staff – a male and three females – they were taken to the Ebrumede Police Station to be remanded in custody.

Subsequently, Gbagi was then declared wanted by the police on Wednesday September 30, over the inhuman treatment of his hotel staffs.

However, the former Minister has now obtained an ex-parte application for the enforcement of his fundamental rights from Federal High Court in Abuja.

Justice Taiwo O Taiwo, presiding Judge of the Court in Abuja, has restrained the police from arresting and detaining the industrialist.

A court document stated;

Justice Taiwo, upon a motion exparte, by Gbagi (applicant)’s lawyer, Nkem Okoro Esq., barred the Inspector General of Police, Commissioner of Police, Delta state (first and second respondents), whether by themselves, their agents, employees, or by whatever name called, from threatening to arrest and detaining Gbagi (applicant) pending the hearing and determination of his application for the enforcement of his fundamental human rights.

Justice Taiwo added;

The respondents are at liberty if they wish to file their response jointly and/or severally within 14 days.

The Judge in his ruling, granted Gbagi leave;

To serve the originating processes and all other subsequent processes in the suit on the Delta State Commissioner of Police by substituted means.

He subsequently adjourned the case till October 16 for hearing.
