Lewis Hamilton has been crowned the most victorious driver in Formula One history following his crushing 92nd career win in Portuguese Grand Prix on Sunday, October 25.

Hamilton has now overtaken Michael Schumacher‘s all-time record with  the Grand Prix win.

This comes shortly after lending his voice to the fight against police brutality and extra-judicial killings through #EndSARS across Nigeria.

The six-time world champion is set to become the sport’s most successful driver of all time as early as next month, with a seventh world championship certain to follow this season.

For the opening six laps, Hamilton‘s quest for history appeared in grave danger following a bizarre start to the 12th of 17 rounds.

Hamilton dropped to third in a manic first two laps, which ended with McLaren’s Carlos Sainz in the lead, but fought back to crush his team-mate’s hopes, Valtteri Bottas.

After both Mercedes (Hamilton and Bottas) passed Sainz, he (Hamilton) tracked his team mate before pouring on the pace and taking the lead on lap 20. From there, Hamilton dominated to take his 92nd career Grand Prix victory.

Hamilton received a standing ovation from the socially distanced crowd, before celebrating with team members and then a long embrace with father Anthony.

Reacting to his new win, he said he “owed it all” to his Mercedes team, adding;

Thanks so much for continuing to believe in me and striving for perfection, it’s an honour to work with you. I could only ever have dreamed of being where I am today. I didn’t have a magic ball when I chose to come to this team and partner with these great people, but here I am.

Everything we do together we are all rowing in the same direction and that’s why we’re doing what we’re doing.

And my dad’s here and my step mum Linda and Roscoe (his dog). It is going to take some time for it to fully sink in. I was still pushing flat out as I came across the line. I can’t find the words at the moment.
