Men of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) have on Friday, October 9 clamped down on peaceful protesters against the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) in Abuja by teargassing and shooting at them.
In the past few days, Nigerians across the country have been protesting against the illegality and unconstitutional activities of SARS operatives.
Protesters in the country’s commercial capital city of Lagos have been led by celebrities. There have been protests against police brutality in Oyo, Delta, Enugu, Port Harcourt, Ogun, Benin and other states.
The protests across the country have been largely peaceful, even though there have been tense moments between the protesters and police personnel intent on keeping the peace.
However, some of the protesters in Abuja have alleged that the police officers dispersed them on Friday with teargas while fully armed.
Videos showed the police officers were armed with guns and teargas canisters, pursuing the protesters while shooting teargas at them.
