Rapper Tory Lanez Charged With Shooting Megan Thee Stallion

Tory Lanez and Megan Thee StallionCanadian rapper, Tory Lanez has been charged with shooting fellow rapper, Megan Thee Stallion during an argument in July, 2020.

Los Angeles County District Attorney’s office announced this in a statement on Thursday, October 8, saying Lanez, 28, has been charged with one felony count each of assault with a semiautomatic firearm – personal use of a firearm – and carrying a loaded, unregistered firearm in a vehicle.

He also faces a gun allegation and that he personally inflicted great bodily injury during the alleged incident.

In the shooting incident on July 12Lanez and Stallion, 25, were riding in an SUV in Hollywood Hills, Los Angeles when an argument ensued.

According to the District Attorney’s statement, Stallion accused Lanez of shooting at her feet when she tried to exit the car, injuring her.

Megan Thee Stallion, whose real name is Megan Pete, is identified in the felony complaint only as Megan P.

She initially did not name Lanez as the person who shot her in social media posts and videos on the subject for more than a month.

However, on August 20, Stallion in an Instagram video said that “Yes, Tory shot me,” and urged him to “stop lying” about the incident.

In one of her emotional Instagram videos where she discussed the shooting, she described the incident as “super scary” and “the worst experience of my life”.

The rapper declined to tell police that night that she had been shot, and initial reports were only that a woman had foot injuries consistent with broken glass.

Stallion later said that she was too frightened the situation would have escalated if she revealed to police that there had been gunfire.

Lanez, who had remained silent on the matter since July took to his Twitter page in September to issue an apology to his fans for not reacting before teasing his new album.

On September 25, Lanez then released his fifth album, Daystar, in which he addressed the shooting on nearly every song, denying that he shot Stallion.

He claimed Stallion and her team were “trying to frame” him; on the song “Money Over Fallouts”, where he rapped: “how you get shot in your foot, don’t hit no bones or tendons”.

Tory Lanez is due to be arraigned on Tuesday, October 13, in Los Angeles. If convicted on both charges, Lanez could face a maximum sentence of 22 years and eight months in state prison.
