Nigerians Slam Anambra Governorship Aspirant For Promising To Build 21 Universities If Elected
A United States of America-based medical Doctor, Dr Godwin Maduka, has come under fire for promising to build 21 universities in the state if elected as the next governor of Anambra State in 2021.
Maduka, who is aspiring for the top job on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), during the weekend expressed that if elected governor, he is going to establish higher institutions of learning so that Ndi Anambra (people of Anambra) could have greater access to university education.
The governorship aspirant stated this in Umuchukwu town, Orumba South LGA during a programme he organized for the youths of the state, Sun reports.
He expressed;
If given the opportunity, I will build one university each in all the 21 Local Government Areas of the state. Education is key all over the world. We shouldn’t have a few scattered universities here. It is not that hard to set it up.
In other places of the earth, some towns have up to six universities. It should be as easy as ABC. We will start with only 21; one per local government.
When asked how was going to fund them if that were to be, he queried;
Do you ever know what comes to the governor’s house in terms of funding? Any frugal governor can take care of that. There are some things that we can let go.
And there are some things that we can bring in. It is a matter of priorities. There should be a new negotiation about funding education. After all, that’s why I am here now.
However, many Nigerians on Twitter have expressed their reservation about his plan to build 21 universities within four years. Some called him out for making false and unrealistic promises in order to garner votes from the public.

You will build 21 universities.
Lmao. And what does success look like? What’s the essence of the 21 universities? Will there be equivalent job opportunities to match up?
What exactly is the goal here?
You see that this people think that we are stupid.— The Roadside Investor (@CHISOMEZEH_) November 23, 2020
Anambra state is one of the educationally advantaged states in Nigeria. They come tops in WAEC, Fed Colleges Exam & JAMB UTME. For a Governorship candidate to promise 21 universities if elected, it’s not only deceitful, its foolhardy. Build 21 Research Institutes, that’s better..

Sir Maduka
Pls forget about 21 universities, just invest more in the current universities and use the remaining billions to create jobs….
I see no point having more schools and little or zero jobs waiting for graduates 🎓— SATTOWNBOY 🥏 (@BadBoiEmi) November 23, 2020
These politicians will keep exposing themselves. 21 universities in just 4 years.

Building 21 universities is not realistic. He should focus on improving the already-existing ones.

21 Universities in 4 years. In this country?
They don’t even lie anymore, they just think about a fictional narrative, make their selves the hero in it and feed people with it.
You can’t hold them accountable if you believed what wasn’t possible was possible.
