US rapper, Mo3 has been shot dead on Wednesday afternoon, November 11 while driving on a Dallas highway.
The 28-year-old rapper, whose real name was Melvin Noble, was shot in the head in the brazen attack at approximately 12 p.m. on the city’s northbound Interstate 35 (I-35), according to the Dallas Police Department.
Mo3 was driving on the busy freeway when a car pulled up next to him and allegedly sprayed his vehicle with bullets, TheSun reports.
The rapper’s car then reportedly crashed into a concrete barrier before coming to a halt.
He is then believed to have ran from the vehicle before the gunman, described by police as an adult Black male, followed on foot and opened fire – shooting Mo3 in the back of the head.
The suspect reportedly chased Mo3, firing multiple shots and striking him, while an innocent bystander, an adult male, who was sitting in a separate car also got hit by stray bullet.
Both victims were transported to an area hospital but Mo3 died from his injuries, while the second victim sustained injuries described as non-life-threatening.
Sgt. Warren Mitchell, a Dallas Police Department spokesman, speaking about the shooting, said;
I don’t know a better word to describe it other than ‘brazen.’ I mean, in broad daylight (with) several cars around.
Mo3, a father of three, described himself as a “gang member turned rapper,” to Flaunt magazine, with music being his saving grace from a life of “poverty and struggle”.
His most notable hit was 2019’s “Errybody (Remix),” a collaboration with Boosie Badazz, which has garnered more than 50 million hits on YouTube.
Police have not give a motive for the shooting and the suspect remains at large, as at the time of filing this report.
Mo3 once told Flaunt he believed successful rappers became targets, saying;
That’s how it’s always been. Security or no security, you’re always targeted. Your level of success makes you a target. You have people looking at you who are less fortunate, so you’re automatically a target.
In 2017, Mo3 was arrested in connection with shooting at a Dallas, which saw one person killed. Also, December 2019, he survived being shot in the head. At the time, he shared a video of himself with blood gushing from his head just moments after the attack.
