Breaking: Dapo Ojora, Polo Player And Socialite, Dies By Suicide
Dapo Ojora, a socialite and one of the famous polo players in Nigeria, has died by suicide on Friday, December 11.
He was one of the sons of business, Otunba Adekunle Ojora and his wife, Erelu Ojuolape Ojora. Adekunle is a business executive who was chairman of the board of AGIP Nigeria Limited from 1971 until it was acquired by Unipetrol in 2002.
According to The Street Journal, Dapo, whose younger sister is Toyin Saraki, wife of former Senate President, Bukola Saraki, reportedly shot himself in the head on Friday evening.
Dapo was from a royal house in Lagos State. His grandfather was a high ranking chieftaincy title holder in the state. Otunba Adekunle Ojora, contested for the title of Oba of Lagos but Prince Babatunde Osuolale Akiolu – retired assistant inspector general of police – was picked by the kingmakers.
His death comes four years after he escaped death in a ghastly power bike accident, where many feared he would not survive but he did.
Following the incident, Dapo retreated from the public, shunning every attempt to be part of any social gathering until his daughter, Tara Ojora and her husband, Folajimi Ayodeji, had their introduction ceremony in 2018.
The publication reports that Dapo’s death may not be unconnected to his marital woes with wife, Patricia who is a trained lawyer and and an entrepreneur.
At some point, it was said that they began to experience some challenges in their then-celebrated marriage which eventually led to their separation for undisclosed reasons.
Just last year, Dapo and his wife put their differences aside when they both hosted the creme of society to their daughter, Tara’s wedding to Ayodeji, Chief Obafemi Awolowo’s grandson, at their family house in Ikoyi, Lagos.
His parents and two siblings left, Toyin Saraki and Yinka Ojora would no doubt be badly hit with this sad news as his death comes nine years after they lost a member of the family, Gboyega Ojora, fondly referred to as Gbegi.
He died at 50 of heart attack at First Consultant Hospital, Ikoyi, leaving behind a wife, Solveigh Omosalewa and a son, Toluwani.
May his soul rest in peace.
