Nigerian artistes, Omah Lay, Tems, her manager, Muyiwa Awomiyi and some other persons have on Thursday successfully arrived in the country from Uganda following their arrest and detention scandal earlier this week.
On Sunday, the fast-rising singers and Awomiyi were arrested after performing at a concert in Kampala, capital of Uganda for doing “acts that are likely to cause the spread of infectious disease, Covid-19” while the country was on lockdown.

The artistes were arraigned before Makindye Division court in Kampala on Monday and were to be remanded in different prisons till Wednesday, December 16 before Nigerian government.

Prior to their arraignment, many Nigerians called for the intervention of Nigerian parastatals like Nigerian Embassy in Uganda, Nigerians In Diaspora Commission and Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Following the intervention of these government parastatals, Okumu Jude Muwone, chief magistrate of Makindye, ordered their unconditional release.
The release order dated December 15, said the charges against both artists had been withdrawn and therefore, they should be released forthwith “unless held on other charges”.
Shortly after their release, Chairman of Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), Abike Dabiri-Erewa announced that the artistes and the manager were handed over to officials of Nigerian Mission in Uganda.

In latest development, Abike Dabiri-Erewa on Thursday afternoon announced on Twitter that Omah Lay, Tems, Awomiyi and others have arrived in Nigeria.
She revealed that they arrived at Muritala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) in Lagos State from Uganda via Ethiopia Airline at about 12:35 pm local time.

The NIDCOM chairman thereafter thanked Minster of foreign affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama, Nigerian Mission in Uganda and Uganda government for a quick resolution of the issue.
