Breaking: Omah Lay, Tems Regain Freedom From Detention In Uganda

Uganda: Omah Lay, Tems To Be Released, Case Resolved - Singer, Mr EaziNigerian artistes, Omah Lay and Tems as well as her manager, Muyiwa Awomiyi have been released from Uganda prison, with all charges against them dropped.

They were arrested on Sunday December 13, and charged with doing “acts that are likely to cause the spread of infectious disease, Covid-19” at a concert that held in Speke Resort, Wavamunno Road in Kampala, Uganda while the country is on lockdown.

The artistes were arraigned before Makindye Division court in Kampala on Monday and were to be remanded in different prisons till Wednesday, December 16.

Prior to their arraignment, many Nigerians called for the intervention of Nigerian parastatals like Nigerian Embassy in Uganda, Nigerians In Diaspora Commission and Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

In latest update, Bebe Cool, a Uganda singer who was accused of playing a role in the arrest of the artistes, announced their release via Twitter on Tuesday, sharing documents confirming their release.

In the documents, Okumu Jude Muwone, chief magistrate of Makindye, ordered their immediate release.

Assistant Superintendent of Police in Uganda, Luk Owoyesigyire also confirmed their release via his Twitter page (@lukowoyesigyire).
