Some victims of the brutal shooting of unarmed #EndSARS protesters at Lekki tollgate in Lagos State have appeared before the State’s Judicial Panel of Enquiry and Restitution on Friday, December 4.

According to TheNation, 14 of them were said to have been shot at Lekki tollgate on the evening of October 20, while one was said to have been shot at Ojodu Berger.

In their entourage was Mr Nathaniel Solomon, whose younger brother, Abouta Solomon was said to have been shot dead at the toll gate.

The deceased has since been buried in his hometown in Mubi Local Government Area of Adamawa State.

Another victim’s family was Aiyedungbe Olufunmi Grace, whose brother died at LASUTH after suffering gunshot wounds to the head.

Grace told the publication that after her brother’s death, the hospital authorities ‘changed the story’ and said he died of COVID-19.

Following the incident, which outrage in various parts of the country and in the world, Nigerian Army denied allegations that it shot at peaceful protesters, saying it merely fired blanks into the air to disperse them.

However, the force later on admitted that it was at the scene of the incident, as invited by Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, but had both live and blank ammunition.

Brigadier General Ahmed Taiwo, Commander of 81 Military Intelligence Brigade, Victoria Island, Lagos State, said a portion of the troops that operated at the tollgate on that night were indeed armed with live bullets.

He, however, maintained that only soldiers with blank bullets fired shots into the air.
