Nigerians Threaten Fresh #EndSARS Protest Over Police Move To Stop Judicial Panel Probe
Nigerians have threatened to resume fresh #EndSARS protest over move by Nigeria Police Force to halt the judicial panels of enquiries constituted in various states of the federation to probe allegations of abuses and brutality against its operatives.
Following the #EndSARS protests, aimed at addressing allegations of brutality and extrajudicial killings by operatives of the now-disbanded Special Anti-Robbery Squad, the judicial panels were set up to get justice for victims of police brutality.
National Economic Council decided to set up the various panels of enquiry with members, including the 36 state governors and Vice President Yemi Osinbajo.
However, on Wednesday, the police, in a suit filed at the Federal High Court in Abuja described the judicial panels as a contravention of the provisions of section 241(1)(2)(a) and Item 45, Part 1, First Schedule to the Constitution and Section 21 of the Tribunals of Inquiry Act.

In the suit, the Force consequently prayed the court for the discontinuation of the ongoing probe into allegations of abuses by its operatives.
The development has now ignited fresh threaten to resume #EndSARS protest among many Nigerians on Twitter.
They slammed the police for the move, noting that it showed the Force want its operatives to continue with their evil acts.
See some reactions below;
You said you ended SARS after #EndSARS protests so what more did the protesters want. You said you created judicial panels, so why were protesters still on the streets.
Now that you want to quash the judicial panels, I want to ask you: what exactly do you yourself really want?

We asked them to disband and #EndSARS but it’s the Judicial panel they want to disband.

Govt said they have “ended SARS”, so why do we still say #EndSARS
Govt said they have set up judicial panels on SARS, so why the protests.
Protesters bank accounts still freezed.
Some protesters still jailed.
And now IG/Police wants the panels scrapped. This Govt hates peace.

Just read that the #EndSARS panels set up in states across Nigeria are on the verge of being squashed
Nigerians don’t trust the same organisation that has hidden criminals in it for years to provide justice.
Just another attempt to prevent justice.
Just another day in Nigeria— Aproko Doctor (@aproko_doctor) December 3, 2020

If the #EndSARS judicial panel is illegal, then we will begin protests again
At least that’s not yet illegal

It is coming late. I have expected this from @PoliceNG as I don’t think they will be enthused with showing their dirty linen. This kind of mentality is the bane of all govt orgs. When this should be an opportunity to clean the augean stable, they choose to be petty and childish.

The top officers sent the junior officer out to do the dirty job & deliver on their set target, now top officer realise if d panel continue it can get down to them through confession from surbodinates & Police decided to approach the court.— Samwall (@wolexmind) December 3, 2020
In summary, the FG-backed police doesn’t think the FG-backed judicial panel should be taken seriously.

In short, the govt will end up not doing any of the 5 #EndSARS requests. So much for the “Come to the table” advice.
Look, the Nigerian govt doesn’t understand politeness. But it understands protests and civil disobedience. That must be our language. pic.twitter.com/BcFnok2DsB

I’ve known from Day one that the #EndSars judicial panel is a distraction and complete waste of time. No justice would come out of it! Now the same government that set up the panel is the same government going to court through the Police to challenge its legality.
