All Schools In Lagos Below Tertiary Level Remain Closed Indefinitely - State’s Education Ministry

Lagos State Government has announced that all public and private schools below tertiary level in Lagos State remain closed indefinitely due to the second wave of COVID-19 infection.

The directive is according to a statement issued by the Head of Public Affairs, Lagos State Ministry of Education, Mr. Kayode Abayomi on Sunday, January 3, 2021.

He noted that the recent directive makes it mandatory that all schools earlier scheduled to resume January 4, 2021, must remain closed until a new resumption date is announced.

While informing that a new date will be communicated in due course, Abayomi urged parents and students to ensure strict adherence to guidelines issued by the government to prevent the spread of COVID-19 such as the wearing of face masks, physical distancing, washing of hands under running water and use of alcohol-based hand sanitisers.

It would be recalled that follwpikg announcement of a second wave of coronavirus infection in Nigeria, Lagos State Government directed that all public and private schools in the state must shut down immediately until further notice.

According to the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on New Media, Gawat Jubril, in a statement, the instruction formed part of the state’s preparation for the second wave.

The state also directed all public servants from Grade Level 14 and below, except emergency workers and first responders, to work from home for the next two weeks, with effect from Monday, December 21, in the first instance.

This has now been extended for another two weeks due to the increase in recorded cases of COVID-19 in the state.

The state governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, said the workers would now resume on January 18, 2021, the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Gboyega Akosile, revealed in a statement on Sunday.
