Just In: George Obiozor Emerges New President Of Ohanaeze Ndigbo
Former Nigerian Ambassador to the United States, Professor George Obiozor, has emerged as the new President General of Igbo socio-cultural group, Ohanaeze Ndigbo.
He scored 304 votes to beat four other contestants to emerge the winner in the election that took place at Dan Anyiam Stadium in Owerri, Imo state on Sunday.
Three of his opponents had announced that they were stepping down for him at the venue before voting commenced.
Present during the election were Governors Okezie Ikpeazu (Abịa), David Umahi (Ebonyi) and Hope Uzodinma (Imo), Minister of Labour Chris Ngige, Minister of Science and technology Ogbonnaya Onu, Senator Andy Uba.
Others are former President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Gary Igariwe, ArchBishop of the Enugu Province, Anglican Communion, Most Rev. Emmanuel Chukwuma and a host of other senators and lawmakers from the southeast and south-south.
Obiozor will now take over from John Nwodo as the president-general of the organization following the expiration of the tenure of the Nwodo-led leadership.
