Lagos state government has on Sunday announced that the total shutdown of Third Mainland Bridge would be lifted at midnight of January 31.
It would be recalled that on January 27, Federal Controller of Works in Lagos state, Mr Olukayode Popoola announced that the bridge would be closed for three days for another round of delicate expansion joints replacement.
He said that construction works had reached the stage for casting concrete on additional three expansion joints.
According to him, there was a need to stop all movements on the bridge that could cause vibrations.
Popoola told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that the shutdown would take effect from midnight on Friday, January 29 to midnight of Monday, February 1.
However, according to latest development as announced by Chief Press Secretary to the Governor of Lagos State, Gboyega Akosile, via his Twitter page on Sunday, the bridge would be opened today as contractor was able to complete the repair works on the bridge on Saturday.

He stated that the earlier movement arrangements of 12.00a.m for Lagos Island-bound motorists and 12.00p.m for Mainland bound motorists remains effective.

Akosile expressed that the state Government expresses gratitude to Lagosians, especially those affected by the closure for their understanding.
He assured that Babajide Sanwo-Olu-led administration will continue to drive infrastructural growth in the State.

The Chief Press Secretary added that the government appeals to residents for cooperation as all other ongoing rehabilitation projects will be completed soon.
