Arsenal striker, Alexandre Lacazette has shown off his new set of ‘minion-themed’ football boots as he looks to fire Gunners into the last-16 of Europa League against Benfica.
The Frenchman wore the eye-catching boots in training ahead of Arsenal’s second leg tie with Benfica tonight.
Gunners will be hoping to go through to the next round of Europa League and they will be careful of conceeding tonight as the away goal rule still stands.
The Premier league side have been disappointing in English premier League this campaign and be looking to the continental competition as their only saving grace.
Meanwhile, Lacazette’s new boots have received a largely positive reaction from Arsenal fans.
The boots’ design was inspired by Arsenal’s third kit and it’s navy blue tie-dyed texture. It also features two minions from the film ‘Despicable Me‘, with each performing one of Lacazette’s famous goal celebrations.
Also, the wording “trust the process” have sparked a discussion on social media as well as the rather bold design.
The phrase has been made famous in sport by NBA franchise the Philadelphia 76ers, who Lacazette went to see at London’s O2 Arena alongside France team-mate Antoine Griezmann in 2018.
Arsenal fans have also regularly called for their fellow supporters to trust in the process of the club’s manager Mikel Arteta and technical director Edu, who have encountered a significant rebuilding job at Emirates Stadium.
Lacazette may not be part of the plans long-term, as he has entered the final 18 months of his contract and could be sold this summer in order to receive a fee for his services rather than lose him on a free transfer at the end of next season.
However, the Frenchman’s boots may indicate that he sees his future in north London and, like the fans, is also placing his trust in the project that is currently underway.
Arsenal’s season is hanging in the balance and it all comes down to tonight’s Europa League showdown against Benfica, having played a 1-1 draw in the first leg.
