Tension As Security Operatives Attempt To Arrest Sunday IgbohoThere was an attempt to arrest the self-acclaimed Yoruba activist, Chief Sunday Adeyemo popularly known as Sunday Igboho, by combined security operatives along Lagos-Ibadan expressway on Friday afternoon, it has emerged.

According to video shared online, Igboho, who is topless, is seen with his men daring the security operatives to “do their worst” before they drove off.

Announcing the incident, former Minister of Aviation, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode, in a statement said Igboho was on his way to meet with 93-year-old Afenifere Chieftain, Ayo Adebanjo, when the incident occurred.

Speaking via his Twitter page, Fani-Kayode said;

I just spoke to my brother Sunday Igboho. He told me there was a violent attempt to arrest him this afternoon by a joint team of soldiers, DSS operatives and policemen numbering about 40 on the Ibadan/Lagos Expressway whilst he was on his way to see Baba Ayo Adebanjo in Lagos.

He stressed;

I condemn this attempt to ambush and abduct him. It is not only reckless but also very dangerous. If the security agencies want to see him all they need to do is to invite him to their office. I am not aware of any crime that he has committed and I urge restraint on all sides.

Fani-Kayode then warned the Federal Government from arresting Sunday Igboho, who he claims is a hero to millions of Yorubas.

He alleged that killing him or detaining him unlawfully would be the biggest mistake the FG could make.

Fani-Kayode then urged FG to building bridges, dialogue and the pursuit of peace rather than resorting to intimidation, threats, violence and war.

Igboho was in the news recently for asking herders in Igangan, Ibarapa north local government area of Oyo state, to leave the community within seven days.

The quit notice, which sparked tension in some parts of the state, prompted Seyi Makinde, the governor, to ask Mohammed Adamu, inspector-general of police (IGP) to arrest those fomenting trouble in Oyo.

IGP, thereafter, directed Ngozi Onadeko, Oyo commissioner of police, to arrest Igboho and transfer him to Abuja, but some Yoruba leaders, including Fani-Kayode, were against the order.
